The Masonry Integration Standard

The NorCal Ovenworks Base Unit #4732 is engineered for permanent installation into custom masonry islands. Unlike thin-gauge drop-ins that warp under heat, this unit features a fully welded 14" deep firebox designed to act as the thermal core of your outdoor kitchen.

Equipped with a Structural Top Flange, this grill drops seamlessly into stone, stucco, or brick enclosures. It provides the visual command of a Santa Maria grill with the clean, flush-mount finish required by high-end architectural designs.

Managing a fire inside a permanent structure requires precision. We include the heavy-duty Black Steel tool set as standard equipment to ensure you can bank coals and manage ash without damaging your surroundings.

Fabrication Specifications

1. 4-Sided Structural Flange

The unit is fabricated with a steel lip on all four sides. This allows the firebox to hang suspended within the masonry cutout, creating a clean "finished" look that covers the rough edge of your countertop material (granite, concrete, or stone).

2. 14" Deep Thermal Containment

  • Depth: 14" Standard.

  • Construction: Fully seam-welded firebox (no tack welds). This depth prevents wind from scattering ash onto your countertops and ensures the heat remains focused on the food, not the surrounding stone.

3. Variable Height Flywheel

The side-mounted flywheel allows for infinite vertical adjustment of the grilling surface.

  • Control: Raise the grate to slow-roast using ambient heat or lower it flush with the firebox rim for high-heat searing.

4. Material Configurations

  • A36 Black Steel: 3/16" thick steel body. The traditional choice. Comes seasoned with a Stainless Steel grilling surface. (Requires firebrick lining for longevity).

  • All-Stainless Steel: Non-polished, industrial finish. Recommended for coastal applications and commercial kitchens requiring NSF-level sanitation.


Grate Logic: Configure Your Insert

  • Standard: Stainless Steel Round Rod – The universal standard for Santa Maria cooking.

  • The Argentine Upgrade: V-Grate with Drip Pan – Inverted angle iron tracks grease away from the fire.1 Highly recommended for masonry installs to keep grease from splattering onto your stone countertops.
